Civil Engineering Students Visit UltraTech Cement, Wanakbori

The Civil Engineering Department of K.J. Institute of Engineering and Technology (KJIT), Savli, organized an industrial visit to UltraTech Cement Ltd.’s Wanakbori plant for its students and faculties. The visit, facilitated by UltraTech Cement Ltd., aimed to provide students with practical exposure to the cement manufacturing process, industrial operations, and safety protocols followed at one of India’s leading cement production facilities.

Upon arrival, the KJIT team was warmly welcomed by the UltraTech staff and technical experts at the Wanakbori plant. The visit began with a detailed information in the conference room, where the company’s representatives provided an overview of UltraTech’s manufacturing capabilities, plant history, production capacity, and commitment to sustainability and quality. Students were introduced to the various stages of cement manufacturing including raw material handling, crushing, preheating, calcination in rotary kilns, clinker formation, cement grinding, and packaging.

Following the briefing, the students and faculty were taken on a guided tour of the plant, where they witnessed live operations and industrial-scale machinery in action. The tour offered valuable insights into automation, control systems, and real-time quality monitoring techniques used in cement production. Safety was emphasized throughout the visit, with UltraTech personnel explaining the health, safety, and environmental (HSE) measures implemented across the plant.

The visit also highlighted UltraTech's efforts in sustainable manufacturing, such as the use of alternative fuels and raw materials (AFR), waste heat recovery systems, and steps to reduce carbon emissions. Students appreciated the integration of technology and sustainable practices in a heavy industrial setting.

The industrial visit concluded with an interactive session where students had the opportunity to ask questions and discuss various aspects of cement production and career opportunities in the construction materials industry. The Civil Engineering Department expressed sincere gratitude to the management and technical team of UltraTech Cement Ltd., Wanakbori, for their support, hospitality, and for sharing valuable technical knowledge. The visit proved to be an enriching learning experience, connecting academic concepts with practical industrial applications, and greatly benefited the professional growth of the participating students.
